Join one of the founders of TO TO MAG, an independent publication that tells the story of cities through the perspective of the Italian communities who live there. Together with her and some of the expats featured in the Lisbon issue, you will discover the Portuguese capital through a different lens.

Highlights

• What it means to live as an expat, following TO TO MAG’s itineraries
  The TO TO MAG coordinator will introduce you to some of the people featured in the magazine’s Lisbon issue. You will spend quality time with them, discovering the city through a lens that goes beyond the classic tourist experience, exploring unconventional places, stories and experiences.

• Saudade, music and Fado
  You will spend an authentic Fado evening with Annalisa, an Italian expat who has been living in Lisbon for several years and who, since her arrival, has immersed herself in one of Portugal’s most distinctive artistic traditions: Fado. She will tell you the story of this music as you walk through the streets of Alfama, before taking you to dinner at a traditional tasca, accompanied by the sounds of Portuguese saudade.

• Activism and the challenge of gentrification
  You will explore Bairro Alto with Fabiana, an Italian architect and housing rights activist who lives in the neighbourhood. Fabiana has witnessed the city transform at a rapid pace, driving out local residents as tourism has become increasingly pervasive
  

• Belém, Sintra, Cascais and Cabo da Roca
  Discover some of the most iconic places in the Portuguese capital and its surroundings with Daniele, an Italian tour guide based in Lisbon, who will share the city’s history and some of its lesser-known secrets.

‍Note: The main language of the trip will be Italian, but some visits and activities may be held in English.

TRIP PURPOSE

The journey follows an itinerary built around encounters with the Italian community in Lisbon. This allows us to go beyond the usual clichés and tourist itineraries and explore how the city has changed over the years, the impact tourism is having, and how those who live there are facing increasing gentrification.

But there is more: thanks to these local encounters, you will connect with places that represent the true everyday soul of the capital, getting closer to the authentic traditions of a city that has undergone rapid development while preserving a history spanning thousands of years.

• Tour & Activities: Visit to Bairro Alto with Fabiana, architect and activist; Visit to Alfama and Feira da Ladra; Full-day trip to Sintra, Cabo da Roca and Cascais with a guide; Guided tour of Belém; Guided tour of the city centre
• Other: Support from the guide throughout the entire trip. Travel insurance (medical and baggage).

Payment Terms

30% down payment at the time of booking and the remaining 70% due 30 days prior to departure.
If the booking is made within 30 days of departure, the full amount is due at checkout.
